Score! RapidWeaver 4.0 Beta In Hand

May 9th, 2008

Just received my private beta email from Realmac. I’m excited to test out the new version of RapidWeaver.

I’ll post my experience up here when I get a chance to build out some sites (maybe Duce Enterprises will be my first RapidWeaver project!)

Ars Reviews GTA IV

May 7th, 2008

I pre-ordered this game way back in November. It’s a bit late to be released, and while the word is it has a few glitches, it’s yet another superb release from Rockstar. Ben Kuchera from Ars Technica reviewed the game with an approach that should be used by more mainstream media outlets that tend to go a little way overboard with their reviews - either too much praise or too much criticism.

I haven’t picked up my copy yet (gotta find the Best Worst Buy receipt first), but I can’t wait. The only problem is going to be finding time to play it. So after this weekend, I might not be seen by family or friends for a while…which might not be to disappointing to any of them.

Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad vs. Apple Macbook Air

May 7th, 2008

This is quite hilarious, yet remarkably true and telling. I love the concept of the Macbook Air, and it is sleek, but if you ever need to do more than sit on a plane with it or let people hold it at Starbucks, then you are S.O.L. (Found via Alex, via AdSavvy)

Ars Technica Reviews RapidWeaver 4

April 23rd, 2008

Ars Technica just reviewed the new version 4 beta of the Mac web design tool RapidWeaver. I’ve been a bit out of the loop on RapidWeaver. I’ve used it for only one client site in the past, though I played with it a lot for my family site before settling on Wordpress, and I’ve used it’s form creation tool for some quick forms for clients. The new version boasts some serious upgrades, including an XML base, speeding up server processing.

RapidWeaver is an absolutely wonderful value, and it’s fun to play with. I would recommend it for any web designer, because there’s always one or two sites that you can build with it, more than paying for it’s small $49 price tag.

I would also recommend it as a replacement for iWeb, which is just not very good or extensible, for family websites and the casual blogger or “develop for friends” type of designer.

And the best part of the entire review was the last line, which I almost didn’t catch…

While we don’t have an ETA on when the new version will ship, RapidWeaver 4 will be a free upgrade for owners of version 3.6, the last major release.

Releasing v4 as a free upgrade for those who bought the 3.6 upgrade is an awesome gesture by Realmac. They did not have to do that, but I’m thrilled that they are!
