Ignite was awesome. That was my second time giving the talk. I had given an earlier version at a Pecha Kucha event at my university. Five minutes is no time at all when you are up there, it just flies by so fast.

Andy, you are correct, I should have said, Kindle DX-killer. The less expensive Kindle is still a good product at a much lower price point. However, despite the gloss-screen effect, the multiple functions of the iPad make it much more valuable at close to the same price as the DX.

I'm finding myself continually peeved when people declare this thing a "Kindle killer." Make no mistake, with two iMacs, a Macbook, a Macbook Pro, and two iPhones in our house, we're definitely Apple fans. But anyone who has ever tried to read an entire book on an LCD screen will never seriously consider an iPad over a Kindle. Or if they do, they'll eventually regret it.

I would never get an iPad instead of a Kindle, but I may just get an iPad instead of a laptop.

You were the guy who got me in Freshbooks. ;)

If you haven't seen the Billings iPhone app yet -- oh you must. The $14.99 upgrade to the pro version (in-app purchase) is a nice way to get you into the app (it's free to get from iTunes), but omg it's so awesome.

It makes me want to bill stuff right now.

Steve, I do agree with you in some cases. If you're in a major bind with the CC companies, then by all means pay them off first. It also depends on the friends/family you owe. Another way to look at is the emotional bind it can put on a relationship. If you owe someone money, there's emotional interest involved as well.

As always, thanks for the insight.
--B

I know friends and family are important, but US credit card companies are B R U T A L so I'd advise paying them down first and ASAP. Sometimes I think their actual goal is to bankrupt everyone - why else would they bump up someone's interest rate to 38% (like they did to a friend of mine) when they seem to be a high risk. Such a usurious rate basically *guarantees* that the borrower will default.

But I'm not bitter :-)

Thanks for the info, Tim. I know a chair isn't everything. How I sit is part of my problem. I tried using just an exercise ball for a while. It was a nice alternative, but not something I could do full time. I think I'll have one in the office to use a couple hours a day, then a nice solid chair for most things. I actually just ordered a cheap chair from Amazon for use in the study in the house, as our current one is broken. I spend so much time in one, I feel like I need to go get fitted for one, like one would for a suit.

Here at our office, we got Aeron chairs for everyone, myself included. After a month, I realized that the chair was causing a lot of pain for me... my hips ached, even when I wasn't in the chair. So I switched back to my old standby (a bit like yours, probably). Everyone else, though. loves the chair. For them, it's been worth the investment. It just happens that I need a certain kind of, well, "bottom" support.

When this chair wears out, which it appears likely to do soon, I'll go try out some alternative Herman Miller chairs... I really do like a nice chair. But for now, I wouldn't give up my ugly chair for the beauty...

my wife and i love USAA as well. it's such a big improvement over the major banks. being able to deposit checks online (and now with the iphone) is an incredibly satisfying way to do banking.

Alicia - I took a quick look at SimplifyThis, but didn't use it for any length of time. I'm amazed at how many tools are actually out there, independent and as part of a suite, for freelancers and the like. The big question is, is there more value in having it in the cloud, or in saving money and keeping it local on your machine?

The tools you mentioned for small businesses (and even freelancers) are very important. I have a few friends that use simplifythis.com for their invoicing, appointment management and other things.
