Adobe Learning Summit Notes: Presenter

Adobe Presenter converts PowerPoint to Flash for delivery via web or LMS.

First, I wonder if Articulate has filed a lawsuit yet.

  • Embed video easily
  • Reviewing is easy
  • Editing is simple, not very robust, but good for the basics.
  • Attendee feedback: audio editing is poor. (New Articulate has good audio editor).
  • Import quizzing (more app crashing).
  • This presenter did not handle questions well - I think she was only ready for her scripted presentation, not being grilled on the app’s shortcomings :-)

Aside: I see a lot of issues with software that’s embedded in PowerPoint. Articulate Presenter crashes for me all the time. I currently have Articulate and WebEx embedded. Does it slow PowerPoint’s performance and cause it to be slow and crash? If it’s not crashing, it can sometimes be very slow. Is this on the embedded App or on PowerPoint not being built for embedded (or overlay) software?

Q & A:

  • Q: How to use Captivate within Presenter (like we do now with Articulate Presenter)
  • A: Integration is a little tighter with Presenter
  • Q: Developing quizzes in Captivate, why can’t branding can’t be carried over to Presenter?
  • A: Captivate quizzing is very different than Presenter quizzing (Wrong Answer: WHY?)
  • Q: Presenter slide shows inside Acrobat?
  • A: Yes. Simple.
  • Q: Can you record video across all slides, or do you have to chunk it?
  • A: No, you have to record video in segments. Same with audio. It’s possible in future.
  • Q: Collaboration - does it only work with Acrobat.com
  • A: Will not work without Acrobat.com (probably a dealbreaker)
  • —My Note: I need internal collaboration. Legal is not going to let us upload docs to Acrobat.com

Quote of the session: “it’s not really that sophisticated right now.” That explains a lot.

I’ll add links to the actual presentation decks as soon as they are available.

Adobe Learning Summit Notes: Acrobat 9 Pro

Pro Extended Includes:

  • Presenter
  • Multimedia to Flash Converter
  • PDF Portfolio
  • Bring multiple file formats together with flash UI

Notes:

  • Users without v9 will see static image with a note saying if they get v9, they will get more.
  • Live data models and charts. Can live update stats.
  • Sorting/searching of files in “portfolio”
  • Embedded powerpoint or Presenter-Converted ppt - able to embed multiple file formats
  • Advanced options for embedding content (tagging, notes, etc)
  • Can comment on embedded technologies. Even video. Can comment, draw, annotate a video, a ppt, a presenter movie.

How to make a portfolio:

  • easy to add content and titles and descriptions
  • simple portfolio designer inside of Acrobat
  • Can upload to Adobe for online distribution (I wonder if we can upload it or configure to upload to intranet, or have to use Acrobat.com?)

Send and collaborate live:

  • Uses acrobat online service (again, can we use this internally, or do we have to use Acrobat.com?)
  • Just like Google docs live updating and collaborating
  • Uses Adobe ID (what about my internal coworkers?)
  • Not great for corporate environment?

Adobe Learning Summit: Opening Session

Adobe Notes:

  • Cap. 4 has variables. Ability to personalize training. Capture data at front-end (names, etc.) and use them throughout.
  • Connect keeps track of every interaction, allowing recording for EEs to take at a later time asynchronously.
  • Same experience in sync/async (for the most part)
  • Flash Player inside of Acrobat Pro and Reader.
  • Embed Captivate movie inside of Acrobat job aid.
  • Interactive menu (like portfolio) for resources. Acrobat could be shell for all resources for training or reference.

AIR:

  • With Captivate 4: Feedback/comments on elearning (reviewer can be on a Mac/Linux)
  • Use AIR to “Send for Review”
  • Send via email (two files - AIR app, review file)
  • Requires IT Support to get AIR installed (will this work in a corporate environment?)
  • Reviewer: watch the movie, add comments as it plays. Comments can be reviewed at end, then saved/submitted to the original file’s save location (shared network drive?).
  • All comments from multiple reviewers will sync up.
  • Reviews are automatically synced, reviewer does not have to email them back.
  • Automatically records author of comments
  • On refresh, reviewer can go see new comments (but no automatic notification built-in?)

Adobe Launching eLearning Suite Soon

Adobe Announces eLearning Suite

I’m at the Adobe Learning Summit in San Jose today. During the opening session, Adobe announced an upcoming eLearning Suite, which will include Captivate, Adobe Presenter, and probably Acrobat.

I’ll keep you posted.
